Dipity Interactive Timelines

"Dipity is a free digital timeline website. Our mission is to organize the web's content by date and time. Users can create, share, embed and collaborate on interactive, visually engaging timelines that integrate video, audio, images, text, links, social media, location and timestamps."

Dipity is not specifically designed for language education, but could easily be used in a language class, especially those oriented towards historical and current events.

There are lots of tutorial videos online for this site.  Here's one video I watched, but if it's not detailed enough, there are many others.  I just recommend that you choose videos that have been uploaded recently, so that you aren't learning with old interfaces and options.

*Disadvantage - There is a difference between free and pay services, which you can see here.  You only get 3 timelines with the free account. - each free user may only create 3 new timelines.

Exercise

With Dipity, you can embed a series of videos (one per day, for example), and include some key vocabulary or cultural notes.  Then, have your students comment in the target language about the videos. I've set up an example of this for your viewing pleasure.
