The site Arabic Learning Resources features resources to help you learn both standard Arabic and the Egyptian dialect. The vocabulary lists include standard Arabic, the Egyptian (Cairene) dialect, and transliterations. You'll also find pages devoted to colloquial idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and sayings. The grammar lessons provide information on various topics such as pronouns, verb conjugations and tenses, and more, with examples to show usage. Most of the grammar information focuses on Egyptian Arabic, but some includes equivalent info for standard Arabic. Nuestras Historias

This was a project created by using the information provided by Mike McViegh and Jana Moyer on their respective websites. Both sites are noted at the beginning of the project page. The final result was a presentation that included a Powerpoint and a written report describing each individual's story. Students were encouraged to share only what they felt comfortable sharing with the class. Being a class of Spanish speaking students from various backgrounds, stories were diverse and in some cases very moving. International Corpus of Arabic

"The International Corpus of Arabic (ICA) is an ambitious attempt to build a representative corpus of the Arabic language as it is used all over the Arab world, with the aim of supporting research on such language. The ICA is planned to contain 100 million words. Once finished, the analyzed version will be the first analyzed Arabic corpus available as a linguistic resource for researchers. It is also the first systematic investigation of national varieties within the Arabic speaking community, this should prove very useful for linguists who believe that their theories and descriptions of language should be based on real, rather than contrived, data." ... read more

“El Gusto y el Sabor de México”:  Comparative Markets    “El Gusto y el Sabor de México” is a cultural unit about Mexican food.   The lesson “Comparative Markets” is designed for all levels and all ages. Few foreign students come to Mexico with their computers, therefore no instructions are necessary for students to carry out this lesson with technology.  Thinglink and SoundCloud  will be used in a  presentation given by the instructor with one computer and a projector before going to the market. Student will need a Google account inorder to sign into Google Maps. Once they have their account, they can create a map and place pins, with descriptions and pictures. Putting Wallwisher to Work

After a week-long seminar about how to use and implement Web 2.0 tools into the world language classroom, participants were asked to create a sample lesson using those tools. One of the main ideas of the seminar was to learn how to use technology as a tool for student engagement and learning. Lessons From A Voice Thread Project

Introduction To The Project - Over the past couple weeks I have been tweeting about a Voice Thread project that my senior Spanish class has undertaken.  We have studied works of Spanish artists such as El Greco, Velazquez, Goya and Picasso. For the big unit project, the students researched a Spanish artist that we had not studied in class. They were then supposed to create a Google Presentation about this artist.  The presentation needed to include information about the life of the artist, the historical context of the artist and details about three works of art by that artist.  The trick of their presentation was not to use more than one bullet note of text per slide.  I wanted them to find the images that could tell the story of the artist.  The students uploaded their images to Voice Thread where they narrated over their slides.  Essentially, they created their own mini documentary.  Last year this project was a poster project.  This year we’re trying to adapt the concepts to the 21st century. ... read more
